Owing to a tendency for self-indulgence Adrian Waters from Brisbane band The Big Brass Bed has taken it upon himself to interview himself and subject the results to your scrutiny. He beguines from the beguinning…

Where have all the flowers gone?

Good question. I’m going to focus on the positives. I’ve got a bit of a hunch that you’re aware of the fact that many weeds are indeed flowering plants and probably haven’t really gone anywhere as such. They have lifecycles, they germinate, photosynthesize, engage in some kind of reproductive act and then wither returning to the soil where their remains- for want of a better term- are recycled as food for other herbaceous life forms, weed and proto-weed alike. Now, if it’s the buds that you want to know about…

Will you still love me tomorrow?

Hmmm difficult… embarrassing even… Actually, in all seriousness it reminds me of one of the most beautiful love songs I reckon I’ve heard…’Summer of My Life’ by Archie Roach from the ‘Charcoal lane’ album. Both deeply sad and truly joyous it’s a great song from a great album by one of this country’s foremost songwriters I reckon. I’m gunna put it on now…

Why would you wanna live?

A truly burning question. Look, there are some very appealing things to be said about living. Refer to question one and smell the f*kn roses…

If you had a hammer…

Sure, I’d hammer all over this town and maybe I’d think about doing something marginally sane like doing a trade in carpentry. As you know, my grandfather was a sheetmetal worker who was, ‘ow you say… "good wiv ‘is ‘ands". I thought he was amazing. I remember- as do you- that I spent hours underneath my grandparent’s house doing bizarre and generally destructive things to discarded pieces of timber, fibro and other miscellaneous debris. I’d like to think that I learnt a lot from my grandfather and his approach to his craft. But if I were to make you a table then you’d want a receipt.

Why don’t you love me?

I would’ve thought that was self evident but sometimes you’re okay… maybe we can be friends someday…

How does that grab you Darlin’?

Like the time I decided to long board between Santiago and Tijuana on the wake of an Equadorean container vessel and a ‘gun’ rope handler from the Venezuelan Maritime Authority, using a length of plaited sugar cane fibre, plucked me out of the throat of a barrel and hauled me up onto the deck of a re-fitted Ambonese prau ostensibly for the purpose of routine questioning… but you knew that…

Did you ever?

I only stop for coffee.

If you had a ribbon bow…

There’s no doubt that it wouldn’t go with my fancy sash. Still… no point concealing that I’d probably wear it anyway…

What gives?

Best question yet… Oh… you mean why is The Big Brass Bed playing in Cairns at The Woree Tavern on Saturday the 30th July and The Shrubbery in Mission Beach on Sunday 31st July?… Fancy asking the questions to which you already know answers… got me eye on you sunshine…

webmistress note: i missed the gig above but keep an eye on the satellitediscs website for future gigs from The Big Brass Bed.... or go to the jukebox and listen to some of their songs.
